Cars and light vans of every make are accepted for a valuation, whatever their age and whether or not they run. This page explains which conditions are covered, what we need to value a vehicle and what can hold a collection up.

Vehicles in any condition

A vehicle does not need to be roadworthy, taxed or running to be valued and collected. Each condition has its own guide:

MOT failures: Cars that have failed their MOT, or whose MOT has expired. A valid MOT is not needed for collection.
Non-runners and mechanical failures: Cars that will not start or drive, with engine, gearbox, clutch or electrical faults.
Accident-damaged cars: From bodywork damage to cars that can no longer be driven.
Insurance write-offs: Category N and S cars that you have kept or bought back.
Vans: Panel vans, Luton and box vans, pickups and tippers, running or not.

Cars that simply are not worth repairing any more, or that you no longer need, are accepted too.

Makes and manufacturers

Every make is accepted. These are the manufacturers with their own page, covering the brand and the models most often scrapped. If your make is not listed, it is still accepted.

What we need for a valuation

the registration number and the postcode where the vehicle is;
whether it starts and drives, and what is wrong with it;
any accident damage, and the write-off category if it has one;
any missing parts, including wheels or the catalytic converter;
whether you have the V5C log book and all the keys;
anything that affects access, and any outstanding finance.

A person at the collection company covering your area values the vehicle from these details. The more accurate they are, the less likely the valuation is to change at inspection. See scrap car prices.

What can prevent or delay collection

Ownership: you need to be the legal owner, or authorised to sell the vehicle. For a business vehicle, that means authorised by the business.
Outstanding finance: it must be disclosed to the collection company. A finance agreement stays with you after the vehicle is transferred.
Inaccurate details: if the vehicle does not match its description, the valuation can be revised on inspection or withdrawn.
Access: the recovery vehicle has to be able to reach and load the vehicle safely.
Late cancellation: cancelling less than 24 hours before the agreed time may mean a charge for the aborted journey.

Have the V5C, photo ID and all keys ready for collection day. Who does what

Scrap A Car For Cash (operated by Lead Stack Ltd, company number 15877625) takes your enquiry and passes it to an affiliated vehicle collection company that covers your area.
The collection company values the vehicle, collects it free of charge and pays you on collection, in line with the terms you agree with them.
If the vehicle is completely scrapped, that happens at an authorised treatment facility (ATF), which gives you a Certificate of Destruction. A vehicle that is repaired and resold instead does not get one.
