Scrapping a car for the first time often raises dozens of questions. How much will I get? Do I need to sort the paperwork? Can you really collect from anywhere in the UK? We've helped thousands of customers since 2009, and these are the questions we're asked most often. Below you'll find straightforward answers about payments, collections, documentation, and what happens to your vehicle once it leaves your driveway. If your question isn't covered here, our team is ready to help on 0800 002 9733.

How much will I get for my scrap car?

The value depends on your vehicle's weight, make, model, and current scrap metal prices. Larger vehicles like vans and 4x4s typically fetch more than small hatchbacks because they contain more recyclable metal. We provide instant quotes over the phone or online, and the price we quote is the price you receive. No hidden deductions, no last-minute changes when we arrive.

Do you collect from my area?

Yes. We operate across the entire UK, from the Scottish Highlands to Cornwall, from rural Wales to central London. Our nationwide network of licensed collection partners means we can reach virtually any postcode. Same-day collection is often possible in urban areas, while more remote locations might require next-day scheduling.

Is collection really free?

Completely free, regardless of where you live. We don't charge call-out fees, mileage costs, or admin charges. The quote you accept is what you'll be paid in full. Even if your car is located down a narrow lane or on a steep driveway, there's no extra cost.

What documents do I need?

You'll need the V5C registration document (logbook) and proof of identity, such as a driving licence or passport. If you've lost your V5C, we can still proceed, but it helps to have it available. We handle the DVLA notification on your behalf, so you don't need to worry about filling in forms or posting anything.

When will I get paid?

Payment is made by bank transfer on the day of collection, typically within hours of your vehicle being loaded. We'll need your bank details when booking, and once our driver confirms collection, the money is sent directly to your account. No cheques, no waiting periods.

Can you take cars without an MOT or tax?

Absolutely. We specialise in vehicles that are no longer roadworthy. MOT failures, untaxed cars, accident damage, seized engines, and non-runners are all accepted. As long as you're the registered keeper and can prove ownership, we'll take the vehicle off your hands.

What happens to my car after collection?

Your vehicle goes to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility where it's depolluted and dismantled according to strict environmental regulations. Hazardous fluids like oil, coolant, and brake fluid are safely removed. Reusable parts are salvaged. The remaining metal shell is crushed and sent for recycling. Around 95% of a typical car can be recycled or reused.

Will you notify the DVLA for me?

Yes. We complete the DVLA notification as part of our service, informing them that your vehicle has been scrapped and you're no longer the keeper. This protects you from any future liability. You'll also receive a Certificate of Destruction, which is your legal proof that the vehicle has been disposed of responsibly.

Do I need to remove my belongings first?

Please do. Check the boot, glove compartment, door pockets, and under the seats. Personal items left in vehicles cannot be retrieved once they reach the recycling facility. Also remove any aftermarket accessories you want to keep, like sat-navs or phone holders.

Can I scrap a car that's on finance?

Not until the finance is fully settled. The finance company legally owns the vehicle until the final payment is made. Scrapping a car with outstanding finance is illegal and could result in serious consequences. Contact your lender first to arrange settlement, then we can help.

How quickly can you collect?

In many areas, same-day collection is possible if you call before midday. Most collections happen within 24 to 48 hours of your initial quote. We'll agree a convenient time window with you and provide advance notice when the driver is on the way.
